So much for a great start! :)

Hey everyone!

This week has gotten off to a great start! We did a 1/4 sheet cake for FSU, and we got an order for our first Cupcake Bouquet! Good times!

This week, we have a cake that consists of two very specific cars - a 2010 Camaro and a '72 Chevy Chevelle. There is a lot of history behind this cake order, so we're under intense pressure to not only get it right, but to make it the greatest! This will make her birthday great, but it will be sure to help us out in Tallahassee!

We've got new signs up, and a couple of lawn signs to point you our way, so come see us!

Thanks so much for following us! You guys are wonderful! :* Keep it sweet!

So here we go...

We're trying something a bit different here...

I recently saw Julie & Julia, and she inspired me. No matter what, she found time to blog. We've been stressed. We've been busy. But you guys should know what's up.

So here's one of the new things we're going to do - GIVEAWAYS!

We're at 10 followers now. Once we get to 25, we're going to give away a free dozen of specialty cupcakes. So invite your friends. And we'll have another giveaway at 50 and so on. The more followers, the bigger the gifts.

Alright, sweets - let's make this thing successful. Keep me accountable! :) Get sweet on life :*

Busy, Busy, BUSY!

It's been a LONG time since I've updated the blog! I can't believe I've left you this long without any updates :( We've had so many cakes, cupcakes and orders that things have been wonderful. I'm clearly going to have to do this in more than one blog. This blog will be dedicated to the cakes that have gone out, I'll have another for our upcoming cupcakes, sweets and other exciting things that we can talk about...FUN!
Here's a FAMU cake that we did for a graduate. Congrats, Sam! :)
Here's a Cake for our friend Luke, and he wants to be in politics. So we brought the future to him! :)
A birthday cake for Stella, ordered by a coworker! It's a Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing and Buttercream Decorations :)
Ah, the beloved Corset Cake :) We had SO MUCH FUN with this cake! We love the Chantilly Lace pattern and all! Yum! :)
This Hair Dryer cake was requested by Athena Salon here in Tallahassee. Mo and I covered the dryer, while Mo rocked the HOUSE on those rollers! I don't rightfully know what I'd do without her, but it wouldn't have been this cake, I can assure you of that! ;)I'll be back tomorrow with updates on cupcakes and things like that! We've got a busy weekend, a few more cakes, so it will be a bit crazy. We have a LOBSTER (yes, that is correct. That is why it's in all caps.) Those pictures will be up as soon as that thing is done! :)

Have a good night, sweets! We'll talk with you soon! :*

Hold Fast To Dreams...

I can't say anything else about today, other than this dream is coming true. I can't believe the awesomeness that is God, and what He's doing. :) This morning, we had no customers. After such an amazing day yesterday, I was a little discouraged. I asked Mo if that was normal, and she nice and politely reminded me that people were at work and wouldn't be coming to get cupcakes. Ok, good.

Then someone called and asked where we were located, and wanted our hours. We wondered how she heard about us - without having driven by...she said she read it in the paper. The paper? The paper. We were confused. We thought she was too.

Then it happened. Our friend called and let us know that she had emailed someone at the Democrat over the weekend to see if she could get us in. It worked. We were in print and on the web. And then it kept happening. And then it didn't stop happening. And then we had lines of people waiting for cupcakes. And then we ran out of cupcakes. And we had to make more.

And we wouldn't trade it for the world. Today was incredibly amazing. And it can only go up from here. :)

I want to leave you with this:

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow

...Langston Hughes

We love each and every one of you that stopped by. Check out the website for tomorrow's flavors and specials.

Get sweet on your dreams. It works :*

Good Day!

Today was a fantastically fabulous day! Mo and I FINALLY got to take some time off, as we're closed on Sunday and Monday. That was the first time we got some rest - well, some - in MONTHS! It was SO worth it! We came back refreshed! :)Yesterday, however, instead of keeping it a day off, we decided to come in and do a bit of baking and free PR. We came in to make LOTS of mini cupcakes, bag them up and walk them to the offices across the street from our shop. Through rain and sun, it was SO much fun! (Hey! I'm a poet, and didn't even KNOW it!) We thanked God because it really could have been hot and gross, as are many days of Tallahassee summers, but he gave us some cloud cover. Fun times :) That brought us some customers today! And some people that were definitely interested in what we had to offer. Great times.

Last night I spent some time with a great friend and mentor of mine, Marion Shaffer of Art Of The Catwalk. She has been INSTRUMENTAL in getting me where I am today. Letting me present as a vendor at her events when my money was SO less than funny. She's an amazing woman, mentor and Mama. And I love her :*
Today was T-shirt Tuesday, where everyone that purchases a T-shirt receives a FREE Cupcake every Tuesday they sport their shirt! Of course, you can buy a shirt ANY day of the week, but the free cupcake is only good on Tuesday.
Speaking of cupcakes - tomorrow is a very special day. Wednesday's specialty cupcake is FORBIDDEN FRUIT (note the apples...). We both know how much you want to try it. We do. It's true. So we've got a challenge. The first 5 customers that can come in and win our trivia challenge will get a FREE Forbidden Fruit cupcake. Wanna know what's in it? I can't tell you! How do we know THAT'S not the trivia challenge...? Hmmm.....

The theme for tomorrow is CHOCOLATE! We had so many people come in and ask for it today, we had to make it a staple. So get this - our Mini Cakes will be triple chocolate, our Cake Lollipops will be dipped in chocolate, we'll have Chocolate Cupcakes - it's everywhere!! Tomorrow's menu is: Vanilla, Chocolate, FORBIDDEN FRUIT, Pink Lemonade, Red Velvet, Vanilla Gluten Free, Chocolate Mini Cakes and Vanilla/Chocolate Cake Lollipops. So much chocolate I can't keep up! :)

Thanks for checking in! Get sweet on this Forbidden Fruit - go against everything you've ever heard about it ;)

Scooby-Dooby Doo and other cartoons we remember!

Soooo...I pretty much learned last night that I can't do anything else with my life other than this :) I have a wonderful time at work, I have a wonderful partner in crime, and things are just lovely. Just amazing. But on to today!
Today was much, MUCH slower than yesterday, which gave us some time to split up and run errands and work on - THE SCOOBY DOO CAKE! Which was tons of fun :)
Mo is just starting out working with Fondant and cake decorating. You'd never tell it after this week of working in the shop. She's a natural at it, and I can't wait until she's on her own cakes. :) More on that in a second.
Today's menu was Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Vanilla, Pink Lemonade with Buttercream, Black Bottoms,Vanilla Mini cakes and Vanilla Cake Lollipops. We were going to debut Bad Romance (shout out) but we decided to wait on it. That's a special one, and we want people to try them and enjoy them!

We got to work on a very, very special Scooby Doo cake for a very, very special family. :) They were invaluable in helping us with the shop. Dan Knippel helped us paint by giving us professional lessons, and allowed us to use his professional equipment to make our shop beautifully amazing. How wonderful is that?? This cake had to be amazing.
And it was.

Tomorrow, we've got a Business Plan Coaching meeting with Mr. Mark Raciappa of ActionCOACH, which is going to be AMAZING! I'm about to work on my homework, and we'll see you back here bright and early tomorrow! :)

Thanks for checking in! :)
Oh, good grief! What business owner that has a blog doesn't update said blog on the day of her Grand Opening?! I have let you down, and for this, I am sorry. :( But I'm going to make up for it by giving you DOUBLE today!

Soooo...OMG! We opened yesterday! All the months, weeks and days of hard (hard) work and sleepless nights has led us to this! I will say, that if I THOUGHT I wasn't getting any sleep then...I had another thing coming! :)

It was an exciting day. We reported for duty at 5:30! We ma
de 4 dozen of each cupcake. We started our first day with Chocolate Gluten Free (provided by Mandy of Bacon & Bakin'!), Red Velvet with Cream Cheese icing, Pink Lemonade with Buttercream icing, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Black Bottom Cupcakes, Vanilla Mini Cakes and Vanilla Cake Lollipops. WHEW! :)

The Chamber of Commerce did their Ribbon Cutting ceremony at 3:00, and there were LOTS of people! I'll have pictures from that as soon as they're up on the Chamber Website. Sure, I got some, but I want these to be great! I have one of me and my daddy, here it is :) I love him :)

Take a look at some of the pics from the shop. We left EXHAUSTED but it was a good feeling (as is the norm lately lol) I got treated to some Olive Garden take out after by my wonderfully supportive boyfriend, and got some MUCH NEEDED sleep. Only to wake up at 5:30 to do it all again :) But more on THAT in the next post!

Thanks for checking in! Even when there's nothing here :) Keep it sweet! ;)

Our sign!

Here's some of the Vintage pieces we got from Bling & Things! :)

Ever popular in the south, The Red Velvets! Can't you hear them singing??

Congratulations. You are still in the running to become America's Next Top...BAKERY!

So yesterday was the America's Next Top Model audition. There weren't as many girls that I thought would be, but it was a good turnout. It was HOT. Then it rained. And it decided to rain while I was getting my make up done. But when you're working with a professional *ahem* Danielle Ardister *ahem* she can make you look like this in ANY weather! You'll be able to find Danielle in the Beauty Salon in my building! Ow!

Been a LONG weekend, full of business conversations, but we open in 4 DAYS!

Thanks for checking in! See you soon! :)

How Could I Forget??

Our counter glass? Who bent it? You guessed it! Thanks, Sly for holding it for me - you thought you came down for Band Camp, but this was your purpose. Where's Monique, you ask? She was afraid of the flame. So she was our photographer. Sigh...everyone has a purpose. :)

Going to get ready for the America's Next Top Model spot! Thanks for checking in!

Get sweet on life! ;) I am.

Sigh...

We've got a new member of the Sugar Hill Gang! My sweetheart Kenneth has come on as our Studio Manager!! So anytime you hear or see Bite Of Your Life in the community at some swanky event, he's gonna be there 9 times outta ten! We love you Kenneth! (Even though he kicks my bootay and makes me work super hard. I love him!)

We went to a fancy meeting yesterday about working with VisitTallahassee.com, and partnering with them to give people that visit Tallahassee all kinds of ressons to come to Tallahassee's PREMIER Couture Bakery and Sweet Studio. Why can't we share with them what we already know? :) I thought so...

And let's talk about how amazing Dee and Tracy at Bling & Things Consignment Shop and Decor are. How amazing are they? They're partnering with us to make our uber cute, vintage shop a satellite location to buy Vintage goodies! How much fun is that? Come in, get a goodie, have a glass of juice - buy an antique tchotchke. Love it! :)

Today - I got a fancy shmancy call! The Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce is hosting our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday (Opening Day) at 3:00 p.m.! Come out while we have an amazing time. And yes, I will probably cry. I can almost guarantee it, actually.

Tomorrow, I'm going to do a bit of pubbing for us. America's Next Top Model is coming to town, and I'm going to be at the audition! No, not as a model, sadly. I'm much too short for that. I will be looking just as fantastic as one, though! My friend and make-up artist Danielle Ardister will be telling people about her uber successful business, and she asked ME to be a model for her! Take THAT, Tyra! I was hand-picked! :)

Let me tell you about THIS little fella! I went to visit my friend Nikki at Pizza Hut tonight after a super long day preparing the shop. We walked out with my food, and someone left this cupcake wrapper by my back tire! Could it be a sign...? Either way, I couldn't pass up this gem of a picture. :) We moved it to get a better picture, and TONS of ants scurried. Could they have been getting the Bite of THEIR lives? Curious...

Thanks for checking in! T-6 days! Thanks for believing in us. You rock at all things sweet! :* Til next time!

Whoa!!

So today was a very productive day! We ended it by attending an ActionCOACH Seminar hosted by the WONDERFUL Mark Raciappa! We'll definitely be employing his services from this point forward. Ow!

Our team is growing as well. We now have a 3rd member, and he's our Confection King! Kenneth G. Barton (a wonderful friend of mine, that I love) is on as our General Manager, and overall awesome man. So love him, wave when you see him, and talk to him about our goodness. All we do is win, son!! :)

We also finalized the menu today! Which is fantastic because we can now offer you (yes, YOU) the fantastic goodies you crave from us so we can help you "Get Sweet On Life"! :)

Thanks for checking in! See you soon! :* (T-9 days!)

The shop! YEEE!!! :)

Isn't this amazing?? This is the corner of my foyer. Ayesha Hussain of Mirage Body Art is the truth!! :)

Here's a couple of pix of the shop as it's coming along. We're closing in on a week and a half...!
My red doors! (I did these) :) Below is how they looked before. I have my dream of red doors :) Now when we tell people where to go, we just tell them - drive down John Knox - and look for the Red Doors!!!

Thanks for checking in! I'll keep you posted! :*

I'm tired - but a GOOD tired!

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm exhausted. What a crazy week working to get this shop open! Here are a couple of updates on what's going on with us:
-Grand Opening July 22
-Grand Opening Vintage Gala, August 7

Just a couple of dates. Today we moved the counter into the lobby (yay!!). We've got our tables and chairs in there, but they're not where they're going to stay...we're a bit confused on that one. The tile in the foyer was (mostly) stripped and cleaned, so that's a good thing! This place WILL be in good shape by July 22.

If you weren't at Art Of The Catwalk Friday, you missed an amazing Girls Night Out Event!! We debuted our new Cake Lollipops, and they were a hit! We hit 'em with the Pink Lemonade variety. Here are some before pictures...

We also debuted the new business cards! Ow!

And people saw my trademark hair - and it was a hit! :)
Saturday, we had a Topsy-Turvy Sweet 16 cake for Heather. She saw a picture of a Pink cake Box cake and REALLY wanted it. It was buttercream, so a bit difficult to pull off, but my buddy Crystal came through and helped out all day! (By the way - support Crystal's charity event "Cupcake Camp Tallahassee". It's gonna be AMAZING!) :) This girl is so super talented, it's a bit ridiculous.

I'm going to attach some shots from this weekend. In a few posts, I'll update you on the shop itself! :*

Get Sweet On Life: Something Great in The Making!

Bite Of Your Life was founded in 2009, By Elizabeth Jackson, a Miami, FL native, currently living in Tallahassee, Florida. Bite Of Your Life is Tallahasee, Florida's own jewel being that it's the only Couture Bakery and Sweet Studio of its kind. Opening July 22nd, 2010, the location: 200 John Knox Rd, Tallahassee, Florida 32303 this will be a gem for the residents of the city to indulge in. The reason for the blog is to show others how a dream is manifested into an actual tangible object, How i turned this shop into a vision of my own. Hopefully it will inspire others in their endeavors, but also publicize my business. I am so pleased and blessed for everything that I have accomplished this far, and looking forward to all the sweet things life has to bring.
